Domino’s Pizza has been a major pizzeria chain in the United States for quite some time, along with Pizza Hut and Papa John’s. The dominos pizza menu is quite extensive and probably accounts for a great deal of Domino’s success. The dominos pizza menu includes a wide array of toppings (including pineapples, ham, chicken, jalapeno peppers, and many more), and its generally speedy delivery service, and the Spartan but clean decor of its restaurants — stainless steel counters, dough being hand-tossed, or “slapped” (pizza industry insider lingo) by pizza chefs using corn meal to avoid the dough sticking to the counters, etc. It provides delicious, handmade crusts, expedient service, delicious toppings, and somehow manages to do it all for a price that the average American can afford. However, Domino’s has begun to tap emerging markets and has begun to change its image overseas from quality budget pizza to more high-class fare. It has been especially successful in the Far East in recent years, particularly in Taiwan and South Korea, where stores are now visible all over the major cities. And with each new country, Domino’s adds new local flavors and adapts to local methods of doing business.

Take the Domino’s pizzeria in Daehangno, Seoul, South Korea, for instance. In South Korea, Domino’s pizza brands itself as a deluxe pizza establishment above other local establishments such as Pizza School, and offers such local flavors on its local dominos menu as sweet potato pizza and corn pizza. Rather than using delivery cars as in the United States, Domino’s Pizza employees ride on “otobai,” or motor scooters, often taking detours over sidewalks and performing death-defying stunts in order to deliver the pizza on time. In some cases, delivery to tour boats in the middle of the Han River may even be possible!

In Taiwan, Domino’s Pizza competes with other pizza chains such as Pizza Hut (which has also established stores in Taiwan, for example in Taipei [the capital] and Kaohsiung) and Napoli Pizza (a local Taiwanese chain). As with South Korea, delivery is frequently done on motor scooters, the drivers risking their lives as they dodge around cars and trucks like minnows in a fast-moving river. Some of the pizza flavors available in Taiwan are rather unique; various pizza chains around Taiwan offer such exotic pizzas as the Mediterranean Fisherman’s Pizza, the Popcorn Chicken Pizza, etc. and the dominos pizza menu must be equally comprehensive in order to compete with local chains — and at this, it has succeeded.

No matter where one looks, Domino’s Pizza seems to be expanding. Domino’s works on a franchise system, and therefore the sky is practically the limit in terms of the places to which Domino’s can expand. One new item on the dominos pizza menu is the new Wisconsin 6 Cheese. This latest entry on the dominos menu includes six different flavors of cheese including mozzarella, feta, and Asiago (a type of cheese originally invented in Asiago, a region in northern Italy).

The dominos menu has managed to adapt to many different markets and the delivery services, miscellaneous services, and gimmicks used by the company have allowed it to expand to a level only matched by Pizza Hut. Dominos menu items such as the delicious, crunchy thin crust also make Domino’s Pizza a popular choice for pizza enthusiasts. It will be interesting to see where else Domino’s Pizza opens a branch next.
